The Chado Video Workshop with Mika Soka Haneishi

Chado, or “The Way of Tea” is known in the Western world as the Japanese tea ceremony. Based on Zen philosophy, Chado was established five centuries ago by Buddhist monks, notable samurai, and merchants during the Sengoku Jidai (Warring States period) which lasted from 1467 to 1615. Chado developed as a spiritual discipline to cultivate a sense of inner peace and to heighten the senses.

Consisting of 18 segments of video material, this self-learning course provides students with a well-rounded experience in the world of Chado and the actual tea-making ceremony of Bonryaku Demae, one of the performances for beginners.

You will learn the basics of Chado including a brief history through an informative narration and visual materials such as videos and pictures. These comprehensive videos include clips from an authentic tea ceremony and a series of hands-on instructions on each movement of the tea-making performance for hosts, and how to perform in the tea room as a guest.
